Role of Soft Skills in Academic Consulting Projects by Mr. Sami Gheriafi

The PMI Lebanon Chapter is glad to announce that Mr. Sami Gheriafi is the speaker for the month of September 2018.  He will be talking about the “Role of Soft Skills in Academic Consulting Projects” and sharing his hands on experience of addressing and solving challenging problems/situations mainly conflict resolutions by leveraging effectively the needful soft skills required. The session will be held on Thursday, September 27th, 2018 at 6:30 PM in The Key ApartHotel Palais de Justice District, Corniche du Fleuve, Beirut, Lebanon.

  • Overview of Universities engagement with the external world beyond pure academia and research
  • Overview on AUB’s Engagement in Consulting Projects Regionally
  • Situational Analyses of university dynamics and faculty engagement
  • What key soft skills do we really need when we manage projects?
  • How do soft skills facilitate project execution with difficult clients?

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how academia dynamics differ than consulting.
  • Know the key soft skills project managers need to cultivate when leading consulting projects.
  • Get insights on the effectiveness of those soft skills when managing difficult clients.

Lecturer’s Biography:

Mr. Sami Gheriafi is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years of experience in different fields and industries in the GCC, Canada, and Lebanon.  Sami started his career in public accounting and management consulting, shifted in Banking industry for a short tenure then moved on to Oil & Gas industry.  In 2000, he joined the American University of Beirut as the Internal Audit Manager, then moved to help establish the Office of Strategy Management, and currently the Director of Institutional Consulting in the Office of the Vice President for Regional External Programs, the consulting arm of AUB.  Today Sami is accountable for the university’s consulting strategy, portfolio management, stakeholder management, business development and oversight on project management. Holds a BS in Accounting from LAU (formerly BUC), and an EMBA (class 13, 2013) from AUB
